JournE Toshiba Touch Multimedia Tablet Unveiled

Toshiba announced its first touch-screen mobile device, JournE Touch, on Thursday, in an international consumer electronics trade fair. The device was launched at Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA), Berlin. The launch of Toshiba’s touch-screen came as a surprise, as people were expecting the company to announce its first Blu-ray disc player instead. The JournE Touch has a seven-inch screen, is half-inch thick and weighs less than a pound. It also has integrated Wi-Fi and Windows CE. Toshiba executive Marco Perino said that Touch can be used “when you want to access the Internet without booting your PC.” Perino also promoted Touch as a choice over smartphone, which he said “is not so practical because the keyboard is not the right size.” According to reports, JournE Touch is “purely for accessing the Internet or sharing content to other devices around the home.” Toshiba said that the new phone would be introduced in Europe by the end of 2009. It would be released in other regions in early 2010. It would cost 249 Euros, or roughly $360. At this price, Toshiba’s Touch would be cheaper than its competitor Apple’s device.
